Question : how easy is it to get health insurance in california if you are unemployed or self-employed?
I think in nj and ny it is guaranteed through places like ehealthinsurance but what about ca? Can they turn you down for pre-existing conditions? Where can I find out more?

If you are self-employed no problem, but if youare unemployed most companies will not accept you.It has nothing to do with being able to afford thepremium; it is because most umemployed people arelooking for a job and many jobs have healthbenefits. Yes, you can be turned down dependingupon the severity and type of pre-existingcondition. You can also be turned down if yourheight and weight are outside the guidelines or ifyou have the "wrong" occupation.Your best bet isto visit a local independent agent that works withall the major companies. The agent can find thebest plan for your situation and budget and canexplain the plans. There is no extra charge usingan agent and you'll have a local person to call ifyou have questions or problems in the future.
