Question: #2: Health insurance, is it better to deal direct or go through something like eHealthinsurance.com???
I've been driving myself mad looking for healthinsurance, which I REALLY need to do. I want thebest and affordable deal but struggling with thequestion: Do I call the insurance company direct,or should I get a policy online from the MANYcompanies that give you a quick quote on severaldifferent carriers??? Anyone have any suggestions? My worry is that if I go through a website vsdealing direct with let's just say Blue Cross, that I will have to pay additional fees, possiblylike a broker fee or something like that. Anygood advice is appreciated, or even if you canrecommend a company. Yes, I know the easiestthing to do would be to just call the company orbroker and ask, but I refuse to be kept on thephone by a sales person unless I have to. HELP!!!

Question: #5: Where do I find good health insurance for my parents?
I've tried ehealthinsurance.com and some otherwebsites.I'm paying $500/ month for just basichealth coverage for hospital emergency only. They're 56 and 61 years old and finding anythingwith good coverage and affordable is impossible.Anyone know what I can do to find better coverage?
- asked by Seeker
At their ages? No. Even if they're in perfecthealth, their age is going to make them anunderwriting risk.If you're looking for somethingunder $500 a month, its not going to happen.Canone of them get a job with benefits? That's goingto be their best route to insurance until theybecome eligible for Medicare. There's no such thingas an "affordable" individual policy for people intheir 50s and 60s. - answered by: sarah314 View All Answers (4)
Question: #6: how easy is it to get health insurance in california if you are unemployed or self-employed?
I think in nj and ny it is guaranteed throughplaces like ehealthinsurance but what about ca?Can they turn you down for pre-existingconditions? Where can I find out more?
- asked by Query
If you are self-employed no problem, but if youare unemployed most companies will not accept you.It has nothing to do with being able to afford thepremium; it is because most umemployed people arelooking for a job and many jobs have healthbenefits. Yes, you can be turned down dependingupon the severity and type of pre-existingcondition. You can also be turned down if yourheight and weight are outside the guidelines or ifyou have the "wrong" occupation.Your best bet isto visit a local independent agent that works withall the major companies. The agent can find thebest plan for your situation and budget and canexplain the plans. There is no extra charge usingan agent and you'll have a local person to call ifyou have questions or problems in the future. - answered by: Zarnev View All Answers (2)
Question: #7: How do I find a reputable independent insurance agent in NYC?
I received some great advice about coverage onthis site for which I thank you all. I used thewebsite ehealthinsurance.com to compare plans butwould like to talk to a person as well. Can anyrecommend a site I could search for an indep.insurance agent in NYC? Or recommend anyone? Isthere a charge for a consultation and/or plancomparisons?
- asked by ms c gardner
The easiest thing to do is to log on to a websitelike http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fillout a form requesting a quote. Your info will besent to a health insurance broker in your area whowill contact you. A broker works with severalhealth insurance companies and can find the bestdeal for you. Brokers need referrals and a goodreputation to stay in business, so they only workwith reputable companies. There is no charge forthe service and no obligation to buy. Question: #8: Where can I find affordable health insurance withno waiting period for maternity coverage?
We're residents of Virginia, but use a doctor andhospital in North Carolina, and can't seem to finda thing. Doesn't need to pick it up as apre-existing condition. Ehealthinsurance.comdidn't find a thing for us. Any help isappreciated.
- asked by ragmama210
You will never find a private plan that coversmaternity. And if it did, it would be so expensivethat you're better off paying cash. Insurancecompanies know that if you try to get maternityinsurance that you are going to...duh...getpregnant.Group health is your only option I'msorry to say. But do tell your doctor that youdon't have insurance, and he/she will probablyreduce your office visit payment. And you shouldalso start putting some money toward the delivery.Good luck!

Question: #10: Health insurance with maternity coverage options?
I'm looking for health insurance that I can have for basic coverage, and at somepoint (if needed)add maternity coverage. Everything I have lookedat so far will only cover pregnancy if it iselected from the very beginning (and beforeconception). The problem is - maternity coverageis expensive - an additional $200 or $300 a month. My husband and I have had difficult time gettingpregnant, and the one time we did, it didn't workout. The point is - I need coverage that istruely optional - add at any time - with nowaiting period. Has anyone had similiar issues? And what were your results? Please don't directme to sites like www.insureme.com orwww.eHealthinsurance.com I've looked at all ofthem and they don't offer the specific plans I amsearching for. Thank you!
- asked by Allison
Unfortunately you are seeking a plan of coveragethat no insurer is likely to offer. Maternityrelated medical expenses can be huge and the onlyway an insurer will cover those costs is byspreading the costs over many non-pregnantpolicyholders. Since some people choose to gowithout maternity coverage (due to expense orinability to have children for example) manyinsurers make such coverage optional. Howeverthey cannot allow you to add such coverage onlittle notice. It just doesn't make businesssense.A few plans I have dealt with allow addingmaternity coverage with at least one year'selimination period - you have to pay the addedpremium for at least one year before any maternitycoverage would go into effect. Ask an independentinsurance broker for details about suchplans.Depending upon your income level you may beable to receive assistance with maternity expensesthrough a state medicaid plan. Qualifying incomeleves are different for pregnany women. - answered by: Drew View All Answers (4)
